I know I've said it before, but I'm going to say it again: there is so much love and care going into each and every block. You can see it in the designs, the techniques, the pride, the love.

Dear quilters - thank you. Every single block helps lift our spirits, as we are together increasing achdut (unity) in Am Yisrael.

Unity in Am Yisrael

Minna, Bet Shemesh   מינה, בית שמש

As described by Minna: this block was inspired by the “choshen”, a breastplate with 12 jewels, each representing one of the 12 Tribes of Israel. It was worn by the High Priest in the Temple, and was used as a way to communicate with God.

I chose this design to symbolize both the unity of Israel (the names of all the tribes of Israel were inscribed on the “choshen”), and the power of our relationship with God.

אנחנו מרגישות מאוד מבורכות.

כשהתחלנו לספר לאנשים על הפרויקט שלנו, אישה מדהימה בשם טרי הגיבה מהר מאוד עם הצעה מאוד נדיבה: היא הציעה לתפור את הקווילטים במכונת ה-long-arm המיוחדת לקווילטים שלה ברעננה.

זוהי ברכה לדעת שטלאי האחדות ייתפרו בידי ידיים כה מוסמכות ואוהבות.

We are feeling very blessed.

When we first let people know about this project, an amazing woman named Terry responded quickly and generously: she offered to quilt the finished quilts on her long-arm quilting machine in Ra’anana.

It is such a gift to know that the Unity Quilts will be quilted by such good, loving hands.

This project is lifting our spirits, by encountering so many quilters who want to be part of the achdut.

A lovely side effect is seeing how other people make blocks: curves, paper piecing, English paper piecing, inset seams… techniques we’ve never used… we have a lot to learn from all of you!

We received this very special block from a quilter in Deganyah.

This is what Sarah wrote to describe her work: “The technique used in the inner squares emphasizes the tragedy of young lives that were cut off prematurely.”

Thank you, Sarah, for the thought, and great skill you brought to this block. We were both very moved.

My phone rang, it was Minna.

"Guess what I just received?" she said.

"Made With Love"

כולנו יודעים את כוחה של נתינה מאהבה.

יכולה היא לבוא בצורת סיר מרק וסלסלת לחמניות לחבר במצוקה. ערימת מגזינים ותה צמחים למישהו שמחלים ממחלה. מכתב פשוט עם מילות עידוד.

קווילטים הן כאלה. אבל יותר מזה. בגלל שמישהו הולך להתעטף בעמל התפירה שלך. מישהו שצריך להרגיש עטוף ומנוחם.

Oh, we all know the power of gifting with love.

It might be pot of soup and a basket of rolls, brought to a friend who is overwhelmed. A pile of magazines and some herbal tea, for someone recuperating from illness. A simple, handwritten card that offers encouragement.

Quilts are like that. But more so. Because someone is going to wrap themselves in your stitching efforts. Someone who needs to feel wrapped and comforted.

אני שייכת לקבוצה של 7 נשים תופרות, כולן שכנות וחברות. אנחנו נפגשות רק לעיתים רחוקות - אולי משום שיש בינינו יותר מ30 ילדים, וכמעט כולנו עובדות מחוץ לבית?! אבל לפני כמה שנים, כשגילינו שלחברה משותפת שלנו יש סרטן, הכנו לה קווילט, לפי ההוראות הכתובות באימייל החפוז שקיבלנו: הכינו בלוקים בצבעי ורוד-ירוק.

I am part of a quilt group of 7 women, all neighbours and friends. We don't meet often - maybe because we have over 30 kids between us, and nearly all of us hold down jobs outside of the home?! But a couple of years ago, when we learned that a mutual friend was diagnosed with cancer, we made her a lap quilt, following hasty, emailed instructions: "make blocks that are pink and green".

החברה שלנו, שמה אהבה, מאוד אוהבת את הקווילט; הוא היה מונח על כתפיה בהרבה טיפולי כימותרפיה מאז. היא יודעת שכל תפר נתפר באהבה ותפילה להחלמתה; היא כתבה בבלוג שלה "'קווילט-הכימו' שלי מעורר תקווה. אינני יכולה לבטא בצורה מספקת כמה הקווילט גרם לי להרגיש חום- גם מבפנים וגם מבחוץ.

Our friend Ahava loves it; it has been draped over her during chemo many times since then. She knows that every stitch was made with love and prayers for healing; she wrote on her blog "My chemo quilt inspires hope. I cannot adequately express how warm this quilt makes me feel both inside and out!"

יש לנו משימה, לתופרות "טלאי האחדות". אנחנו רוצות להביע אכפתיות ותמיכה למשפחות שזה לא מכבר איבדו את בנם, את אחיהם.

We have a mission, we Unity Quilters. We want to show our care and support to families who just lost a son, a brother. We want to comfort them with a quilt that was stitched with love and prayers for healing.

ליבינו כבד ביחד עם כל עם ישראל על אובדן בנינו, אייל, גיל-עד ונפתלי, וברצוננו למצוא דרך משמעותית לתמוך במשפחות האבלות.

החלטנו ליזום פרויקט לתפור את "טלאי האחדות"- קווילטים העשויים מבלוקים מאנשים מכל קצות הארץ והעולם, כמענה לקריאת המשפחות להגדיל את האחדות בעם.

התכנית שלנו היא לתפור 3 קווילטים ולהעניק אותם למשפחות יפרח, שעאר ופרנקל

אנחנו רוצים להגיד למשפחות שאנחנו זוכרים את האובדן שלהם, ולהציע להם משהו מוחשי, משהו שמביע את האחדות שהם פעלו ליצור בעם ישראל, בנוסף לנחמה הפשוטה של להתעטף בשמיכה העשויה כולה אהבה.

אנחנו קוראות לתופרי-הקווילטים בכל הארץ והעולם, ומבקשות מכם לתרום בלוק (שכבה אחת – רק הטופ) שיצטרף לאוסף הטלאים היפים שלנו וירכיב את הקווילטים.

Along with all of Israel, we are feeling overwhelmed by the loss of our boys, Eyal, Gilad and Naftali, and wish to find a meaningful way to support their grieving parents.

We decided to initiate a project to create Unity Quilts - quilts that are made using blocks from people all over Israel, to echo the families' call to achdut.

Our plan is to create 3 Unity Quilts, and present them to the Yifrach, Shaer and Frenkel families. We want to let them know that we remember their loss, and we want to offer them something tangible to reflect their great efforts to create achdut in Israel, as well as give them the simple comfort of being wrapped in a quilt made with love.

We are reaching out to quilters all over Israel, and asking you to donate a block to be included in one of these beautiful quilts.
